Yamcs services

Yamcs, run by people who
fly missions.

JAOPS deploys, extends and operates Yamcs, the open-source mission control system, for satellites, lunar rovers and ISS payloads. One ground segment from your first subsystem test to routine operations, with an experienced operations team behind it.

What we do with Yamcs

Yamcs is powerful and free, but a mission control system is only as good as the people, procedures and integration around it. That is where we come in.

  • Our core service

    Yamcs Operations as a Service

We operate your mission on Yamcs: monitoring, commanding, anomaly response and reporting, as your prime or backup mission control. You get an operations team, not just software.

    Operations as a Service
  • Deployment and integration

Turnkey Yamcs mission control centers: installation, ground station connectivity, mission databases, displays and procedures, delivered ready for flight.

    Turnkey MCC
  • Yamcs as an EGSE

With the Yamcs Gateway, your subsystems and their on-board protocols connect to Yamcs from day one, so the same tool tests your hardware and later flies it.

    Yamcs Gateway
  • Customization and extensions

Plugins, custom links, data processing, dashboards and integrations with the rest of your ground segment, built and maintained by engineers who know Yamcs inside out.

    Our tools
  • Training and certification

Practical Yamcs and operations training for engineers and operators, from first steps to certified flight controller, using real mission scenarios.

    Training
  • Operational review

An independent review of your Yamcs setup, procedures and team before launch, so gaps are found on the ground and not in orbit.

One Yamcs, from first test to flight

Most missions build their test tools and their flight tools separately, then rebuild databases and procedures before launch. With Yamcs you do not have to.

  1. Development

Subsystems talk to Yamcs from the first prototype through the Yamcs Gateway.

  2. Test

Yamcs works as your EGSE. Telemetry definitions and command scripts are written once.

  3. Simulation

Operators rehearse on the same displays and procedures against mission simulators.

  4. Operations

You fly with the tools your team already knows, validated by every test before it.

One mission database defines parameters, calibrations, alarms, commands and verifications, and is reused from test to flight.

Test as you fly, fly as you test. Fewer interfaces to rebuild means fewer errors introduced right before launch.

Works with your satellite and ground station

Yamcs speaks the standards the industry already uses. For new missions we recommend NASA's open-source cFS and F Prime flight software, which are natively compatible with Yamcs. Anything custom can be configured by our team.

Yamcs questions

Quick answers to what teams ask us most.

What is Yamcs?

Yamcs is an open-source mission control framework for monitoring and controlling spacecraft, satellites, rovers, payloads and ground equipment. It supports standards such as CCSDS and XTCE and is used by space agencies and companies worldwide.

Is Yamcs free to use?

Yes. Yamcs is open source under the AGPL license. The software is free, while integration, support, operations and training are where specialist services like ours come in.

Who can support my mission on Yamcs?

JAOPS is an independent Yamcs specialist offering deployment, customization, training and full mission operations on Yamcs, from Tokyo and France.

Is Yamcs compatible with my ground station?

Yes. Yamcs connects to ground stations over standard interfaces such as TCP and UDP and handles CCSDS telemetry and telecommand frames and packets, so it works with commercial ground station networks as well as your own antennas. If a station uses its own interface, our team develops and tests the connection for you.

Is Yamcs compatible with my satellite?

Yes. Yamcs works with any spacecraft whose telemetry and commands can be described in a mission database, typically using CCSDS packets and XTCE. For new missions we recommend NASA's open-source flight software frameworks, cFS (core Flight System) and F Prime, which are natively compatible with Yamcs and save significant integration work. If your spacecraft uses custom protocols, our team configures Yamcs to support them.

Can Yamcs be used as an EGSE?

Yes. With the JAOPS Yamcs Gateway, Yamcs connects to spacecraft subsystems through their on-board protocols, so it can serve as your EGSE during integration and testing and then as your flight mission control system.

Can JAOPS operate my mission on Yamcs?

Yes. Through Operations as a Service, our team runs your mission on Yamcs as prime or backup mission control, covering monitoring, commanding, anomaly response and reporting.

Can Yamcs connect to Grafana?

Yes. Our open-source Grafana Yamcs plugin brings real-time telemetry, commanding, alarms and link status into Grafana dashboards.

Planning a mission on Yamcs?

Tell us about your spacecraft and timeline. We will show you how Yamcs and our operations team can support you from first test to flight.
